Emmanuelle Simon receives the Special Public Prize of Design Parade Toulon, the 2nd international festival of interior architecture.
With her project La Chambre Sur l’eau, Emmanuelle Simon receives the Public Award. Around a central architecture (an island bed), the facilities are made of natural materials with shades of sand and earth bathed in filtered light. The walls are coated with clay; the floor is made of light parquet; the sky of the bed is covered with waves of white veils. The central birch platform evokes a boat. It is surmounted by an arch structure braided with linen ropes — a “room with a view” facing the Mediterranean landscape.
Emmanuelle Simon was born in 1988, graduated from the Camondo school in interior architecture and design, after collaborating with Pierre Yovanovitch, Tristan Auer and Jean-Marie Massaud, she founded her own studio under her name in Paris.
The jury met on 16 and 17 March 2017 at the Opéra de Toulon and selected the ten finalists presented in Toulon this summer from among nearly 150 entries. Among them, the Emmanuelle Simon duo and the Mariam Bouchamane and Margot Cosyn duos, all three graduates of the Camondo School.
In November 2016, Villa Noailles launched the call for applications for the Design Parade Toulon competition. The young candidates sent a project to design and decorate a living room by 1 March 2017 at the latest. Since 2016, Villa Noailles has been involved in a new proposal in Toulon dedicated to interior design and decoration. From now on, every summer, she organizes Design Parade in two parts: the first in Toulon for interior architecture, the second in Hyères for design.
Through this new proposal, unpublished in France, Design Parade makes it possible to tackle, during a long weekend, all aspects of decorative arts in contemporary creation. Design Parade Toulon and Hyères aim to discover, promote, and support the younger generation in these complementary disciplines and to present international creators to professionals and the public through exhibitions and conferences. To encourage young creation, the festival focuses as much on crafts, exceptional know-how, and industry, thanks in particular to the support of its partners. The festival is also an opportunity to explore the heritage of these two neighboring cities, each of which offers an expression of the architectural and decorative richness of the Var.
The ten finalists of the competition will be invited to Toulon during the festival. Each of them will carry out their project adapted to the rooms of a building made available to them and enriched by the help of the festival partners. The jury will meet the ten finalists in Toulon, during the festival, at individual meetings. At the end of these meetings, the board will award the Grand Prix Design Parade Toulon – Van Cleef & Arpels. Design Parade Toulon from June 29 to September 24, 2017.
